NRC CNRC WELCOME TO THE Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory BIENVENUE À l'Observatoire fédéral de radio- astrophysique The Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) is operated by Canada's National Research Council (NRC), the country's premier research and technology organization. The hills surrounding the White Lake basin offer protection from man-made radio interference and make this location an ideal site for the Canada's only radio astronomy observatory. [Photos: Six circular images showing telescope dishes and facilities] What we do NRC manages Canada's participation in an array of major international telescopes, provides astronomers with essential services including one of the world's foremost astronomical data centres and access to the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) and the Gemini Observatory's twin 8-metre telescopes located in Hawaii and Chile. The world renowned DRAO has contributed to the understanding of the structure and content of the Milky Way.
